In general, a concert is a shorter event that rarely exceeds a few hours, while a festival usually lasts a full day at least, but can last several days or even weeks in some cases. A festival usually lasts at least 2 days and many last between 3 and 4 days. A concert is normally a one-day event that revolves around a main band. The start time is usually between the middle and the last hour of the afternoon and ends around 11 p.m., while a festival will have music from noon until at least 11 p.m., and some dance festivals will be held later.
Concerts, shows and festivals refer to special musical events. Concerts are a means for important artists to connect directly with their fans, while festivals are multi-day events where many artists perform. For someone who has been to a concert but never to a festival, you can think of it as several concerts on the same stage. This is one of the attractions of a music festival, as it really gives you the opportunity to disconnect from everyday life and get a little away from things. For example, dance, jazz and world music stages can be found at many major festivals, as well as on the main stage and another (the second largest). Although there are main artists at a festival, you can often find live music around noon each day on at least one or more stages.
